Welcome to Somerset Gallery Quire
We sing and play the sort of music that was performed from the west galleries of English country churches in Georgian times. Think Thomas Hardy and “Under the Greenwood Tree” and you will get the idea. The music is lively and vital, sung in four parts, each one supported by an instrument; flutes, fiddles, cellos, clarinets and concertinas are commonly used in West Gallery bands. The same band often played for the village dances as well, sometimes leading to confusion in church the next morning if they were a bit hung over!

Somerset Gallery Quire meet every second Saturday of the month (with the exception of August) at Holy Trinity Church Centre, Church Lane, Nailsea, BS48 4NG from 13.45 until 17.00. There is a carpark at the Church Hall on the right hand side further down the lane. We do a couple of performances a year, so it is not a big commitment, but very enjoyable. New members, or those who just want to see what we are all about, are invited to come along. Please get in touch with Pete on petecr13@gmail.com . You would be very welcome.
